Indianapolis Senior Photographer | casey and her camera
Today I want to take a time out to talk about one of my all-time-favorite seniors…. COLLEGE seniors.
You’ve all met Nicole several times before – she’s the ‘face’ of my business. Just search her name for a plethora of blogs over the years featuring her. She’s part of what started all of this for me… after all, to become a portrait photographer, a family photographer, an engagement or even wedding photographer, you have to have people who are willing to be your guinea pigs and step in front of the camera.
Nicole was one of them. Not to mention she is my best friend, my partner in crime, and nothing short of family to me. We met in college, but not at school… even though we were going to the same school. We met at Von Maur – I had been working there for a few months when she came on board and I’m 100% certain for the first week or two we didn’t like each other. Fast forward three months and we’re living together.
Nicole is one of the most dedicated students I know. I met her when we were in our junior year of college and while she’d had a bumpy road for the first two years, I never saw any signs of it and still to this day it’s really hard for me to believe. She takes the most meticulous notes, rewrites them in even neater handwriting to keep things organized and solidify the lesson in her head. She studies – like actually studies – for tests, quizzes, presentations, and exams. She is a perfectionist. She works and goes to school (though I’m not convinced she sleeps). She has changed majors a time or two only because she has been careful about finding her passion and committing herself to what she was BORN to do. She is the ideal student. And yet she’s still found time to take care of herself. She is active, healthy, and a role model of what a responsible adult looks like. And I think she is 100%+ fabulous. I adore her.
And today… she is graduating.
While it may have taken her longer to earn her degree, I guarantee you that she gained infinite amounts more than I or a lot of my college peers did. I took shortcuts, I didn’t study, I sometimes never even cracked the book for the course – especially not if the Santa-look-a-like or Elvis professor was sitting on a table at the front of the room reading it aloud to me. I can honestly say (sorry, Mom) that I learned NOTHING in my gen ed classes in school. Now, classes pertaining to my major (art education) are a different story. I most certainly learned and gained something from every education and art class I took in school. The others are a wash though – I was young and I’m a TERRIBLE student. That’s why I went on to become a teacher. đ
So today, I cheers to Nicole – the graduate. I so-very-much-so wish I could be there with you today and am sending you hugs upon hugs upon hugs. Congratulations and much love. <3

Awesome!
such a fun picture that really captures her personality!
What a beautiful friendship.
Thank you!!! Your words always bring me to tears. You could call me a cotton-headed ninny muggins and I would still cry like a baby (happy tears, of course). Thank you for your incredibly kind, kind words – you’ve given me more credit than I deserve! I wish you could have been here (I’m quite certain we would have had the best photographic adventure ever), but I’m hopeful that I will see your beautiful face very soon. Big, BIG hugs!
I love that picture of her. She has an amazing smile!!
