I’ve officially hit the busiest wedding season I’ve had to-date in the last few years. While this is my first blog post of the bunch, this coming weekend I will be shooting my last wedding of a long stretch with a couple of upcoming weeks to breathe before things pick back up again. Summer weddings in the midwest are not to be taken lightly, either. It can be so hot and humid here that even a change of clothes halfway through the day doesn’t feel refreshing. I took a couple of summers off of July and August weddings a few years back when my oldest was born and it was so nice I wasn’t sure I’d ever take them on again. Slowly, though, over the last few years I’ve picked up a handful of them again and have found them to be so much easier. I’m not sure what it is that changed for me, but I’ve also noticed that the older I get, the more I seem to enjoy summer and even welcome the heat. Maybe it’s that I’m always cold and I’ve finally realized that summer is the natural sauna I’ve been seeking all my life. Either way, enter the summer of 2022 where the bulk of my weddings for the year all fall in June, July, and August. And lucky for me, I have had the most perfect summer weather a photographer-dressed-in-all-black-shooting-outdoor-ceremonies could ever ask for… not to mention I’ve also had some indoor ceremonies.
First up in my summer wedding series is Amy and Brett’s Mavris wedding. They’ve been planning this wedding for years (literally, years) now after COVID shut down their original plans for celebrations. It felt like a long time coming after years of Amy and I emailing about their celebrations and I was so excited to finally see it come together. Complete with their german shepherds, cotton candy, costume-clad entrances, and Amy’s show-stopping blue couch (can we make bold couches a regular part of wedding decor?) it was the perfect way to kick off the summer. And at one of my favorite Indianapolis wedding venues, too.
Amy and Brett, it was worth the wait. Thank you for having me along and congratulations to you both!
