There are so many beautiful thoughts floating around in my head as I get ready to write about this session. Jennie and I had this session on the calendar for a while before we moved it up and shot in October instead of November, and I could not be more thankful that we did. We ended up with amazing lighting and gorgeous colors. Gosh, I love fall.
More importantly, though, I was so. flipping. excited to meet Jennie. Jennie started following my Indianapolis photographer journey after this session and even more so after this session. With social media these days, it sometimes feels like you know a person before you’ve ever met them and this is exactly how I felt with Jennie. So when she contacted me about moving her November session up to October, I was thrilled. October is my absolute favorite month to shoot because of the colors and the weather, and I was pumped to get her in front of my lens even sooner than expected.
In addition to moving the session up, Jennie decided to add in the grandparents to the session – something that worked out PERFECTLY for us. We spent a quick 15 minutes right at the beginning getting shots of the whole bunch, as well as some more candid individuals and I know they are just gonna make some heart’s burst. They make my own feel like it’s bursting at the seam.
There’s always more to every family, to every story, than meets the eye. It’s my job to make sure these in-between-the-lines details come through in images. It’s my job to make memories out of moments so that we can hold onto them for a lifetime. So here comes my favorite little story from this session…
These two lovebirds request a photo of just the two of them and I happily oblige. I’m at these sessions just for this reason – tell me what you want! I’m happy to capture it for you! So they jump in front of my camera – no posing required – and just snuggle up together. He turns to me and asks if I know their story. I wracked my brain, but came up empty. I didn’t know their story. He goes on to tell me that they dated in high school… as kids. And then they graduated and went their separate way for 35 years. They had no contact in this time and while she didn’t know where he was or what he was up to, he always kept her in the back of his mind and kept up on what she was up to. And then after all that time, they reconnected…
… and got married. <3 <3 <3 I just love when clients share their storied with me.
Having grandparents at the beginning of a session should be mandatory. Especially if they live locally. Having photos of your family to document the changing times is important, so why not include them? These are the photos that the grandkids and grandparents will treasure forever, and I’d be willing to bet you will, too. 😉
We only spent about 15 minutes with the grandparents and then they took off and Jennie and her family ventured off into the woods with me. We ran, we hid, we played, we hugged… well, okay. They did. I photographed it. It was fantastically, wonderfully, perfectly stunning. Jennie did a magical job of coordinating outfits and we were grateful to have fairytale lighting. The kids are darling and were not afraid to show their personalities and I could not be more grateful to have been able to capture them at this moment in their growing years. It’s amazing how quickly kids grow into the people they are becoming and it’s sessions like these that freeze who they were for a moment in time into a split-second photograph that will live on forever and document just how far they’ve come. Huge, huge thanks to the Keen family to being flexible as we made changes to your session… for being thoughtful and kind and gracious and real throughout our session. I sincerely and thoroughly enjoyed our evening together and getting to know you a little bit more. <3
