Indianapolis Family Photographer | casey and her camera
Amy, a friend of the Carroll family, reached out to me a few weeks ago interested in getting some family photos in before the holidays. While this time of year can be tight for editing turnaround, I jumped at the chance and am super grateful that I did. Not only is this little family of five just perfect, we also shot at Piney Acres Farm in Fortville! I haven’t been to a tree farm since I was a kid – my mom is allergic and once we figured this out after a few Christmas’, it was onto fake trees for us!
If you haven’t been to a tree farm in a while, and you live here in Indy, I encourage you to take a trip out to this one. It’s just as magical as you imagine in your head – there are rope lights strung up, popcorn and hay rides, you can cut down your own tree or choose from some pre-cut ones, can pet their farm animals and more. PLUS, they’re open year-round for other festivities (CORN MAZES!!!), too!!
Ok, back to the real focus of this post… the Adolay family!! I arrived a bit early to the shoot (wasn’t sure how long it’d take me to get to the farm) and spotted Amy before I even knew it was her. I was totally checking out her super-cute dress. Then, when we met it all made sense – of course I would be shooting the girl in the super cute dress and her absolutely perfect little family! I know sometimes family shoots can be stressful for families – I know they were for me when I was little. There is more-than-one framed Sears photo in our house where my face is beat-red from crying over the terribly uncomfortable tights I was wearing. Tights were my worst nightmare. Still are. Shhhh…..
The Adolay’s showed up with perfectly coordinated outfits (way to go, Amy!!) and shining personalities. Each of these three girls is so much their own person, but yet clearly are sisters all at the same time. Not to mention, the photography gods must really be on my side lately – how did I get so lucky with yet ANOTHER super photogenic family? Sophie, the middle sister, even stood by my side prompting poses and kissy-faces from her parents when she had a chance to be out from in front of the lens. π
So without further adieu – I introduce you to the Adolay family and… maybe… my favorite shoot of the year?! I just LOVE Christmas!! AHHH!
<3
If only every pre-teen (or teenager!) agreed to this pose with their parents. They will cherish it in their adult years. <3
This. THIS is my FAVORITE photo from the session. For many reasons, but one of which is Ella (the youngest)’s face. π On a photographer note – I had a version in which I ‘eye-swapped’ and it just didn’t have the same effect, so I decided to keep the original.Β Eyes-closed and all. I just love that she’s sort of basking in the sister-hug.
All she wants for Christmas is her… two… front teeth? π
And YES. Courtesy of Sophie’s off-camera posing abilities. ADORE.
Also a favorite of mine from this session. I think Maggie’s laughing face it just the best. <3 What triggered it? Oh, you know, her sisters decided to start a game of tag (in the shot and in front of my camera) while I was shooting her. But you wouldn’t know that unless I told you because you can’t see them… I’m that good. π
And the kids in the background playing tag. So this is what parenthood looks like. <3
I always like to offer to the client (obviously!) a chance for any special requests, poses, or shots they want… after all, this is their session! Per Matt’s request, we tried to set up the girls poking out from the trees. Matt is even hiding with Ella to help her out. She didn’t quite get the hang of what we were asking, but the results are so.much.BETTER. this way. Keep going…
See!? Stole the show right there. And a couple of hearts, I’m sure.
