Earlier this year I put out a call for nominations for an Indianapolis family who deserved to win a free session for their family. It was the start of my Giving Back initiative for 2015. Nominations came in and voting began. One of the nominations came from Lindsay, who was featured with her own little family on the blog earlier this year. Lindsay nominated her sister, Jenn, and Jenn won.
Jenn has never had professional photos taken of her and her kids and Lindsay believed she deserved a chance to have these fleeting moments and milestones documented. Of course, when kind-hearted people win something, the first thing they want to do is share it with their loved ones.
Jenn opted to use the first part of her session to get a full-family photo – three generations of them. For me, that meant seeing this little ham again (always a plus), in addition to meeting the other people in Lindsay and Jenn’s family.
I knew I liked Jenn from the moment she was nominated and this was reaffirmed as we began emailing. It was easy to know – I liked Lindsay from the moment we started emailing and had a blast with her, Jason, and Jeff at the Indianapolis Museum of Art earlier this year. It was only natural that Jenn would turn out to be equally pleasant, kind, and joyful.
What really put the icing on the cake for me, though, is that they clearly get their personalities from their parents. After spending only 20-30 minutes with the whole bunch I can tell that they get their humor and their spunk from their father, and their gentle, selfless nature from their mother.
Extended family sessions can get tricky – it can be hard to wrangle the kiddos and to allow the adults to relax and get into the shots. We had blocked out 30 minutes for this part of our shoot and I was worried we wouldn’t have enough time to get everything in. I think we wrapped up in 20-ish minutes finishing it out with a family portrait that deserves to be blown up huge on the wall… or the cover of a family-oriented magazine.
So to Jenn, Lindsay, and their whole wonderful family… the pleasure was all mine. You made my evening (maybe even my week and month) and I could not be more grateful to have met you all.
Stay tuned for part two of Jenn’s session with her and her (big) littles! 😉
