I’m always raving on here about how much I love this aspect and that aspect of photography, and with the frequency of blogs lately, I’m beginning to notice that I just about love everything. It’s likely related to the fact that I cut out services I didn’t feel passionate about, and only serve clients who’s requests fill my heart… like extended family photography. I’ve shot more of these sessions this year than any year thus far in business, and I adore them. I think it’s because I love seeing parents interact with their parents and love to get the grandparents in the shots with the kids. It’s also because I know how difficult it can be to get the whole family together in one place at the same time, and make time for photos on top of that. The biggest reason I love it so dearly, though, is that I really believe that the photos we take of our families are for the younger and future generations and while they may not be old enough to fully appreciate the moment during the shoot, they will look back on these photos with more fondness and appreciate than you could ever imagine. And that is why I love these large family sessions so much.
This family, in particular, has been a staple in my photography journey. Once every few years, they like to get the whole gang together and I got a kick out of look at their previous extended family session images. Take a peek there – isn’t it crazy how much everyone has grown!? Not to mention, this family has grown since by one human and two dogs. It was definitely time for some updated portraits!
This session also happened to be the second session in my Michigan trip where I was sent home with hot cider (this time a full mug!) just grinning foolishly at myself and how much I love fall. There’s no other way to explain it than feeling relaxed… even amongst the craziness that is busy season! Thank you, Babinski family, for always, always being so inviting. It is, and will always be, a pleasure documenting your family. Happy birthday, Joanie! See you all soon!
