Those of you who are new fans or clients, or maybe those of you who are reading this as your first post, might be scratching your heads right now wondering if I’m relocating to Michigan. The short answer is no. The long(er) answer is that while I may be an Indianapolis Photographer by day, I moonlight (a couple of times a year) as an Ann Arbor Photographer. For those of you who are in the area, I head back twice a year (spring and fall) for family, lifestyle, and couple sessions, and add in a few extra trips here and there for weddings when I get the chance!
Just recently, I headed up to Michigan for my annual spring sessions, and these two were on the schedule for a bright-and-early sunrise session. We’re talking meet-at-6-am early… which means Jaclyn started getting her hair and makeup done at 4am. FOUR AM. You guys, she’s a champ. And so is Kyle, who did her hair and makeup flawlessly… AT FOUR IN THE MORNING. But the most impressive of all? Jesse got up at the same time, too, even though he didn’t have to. Fiancé of the year, right here!
I know you’re dying to scroll through this post (or maybe you’ve already skipped this, scrolled, and are now coming back to it), but I want to give you a tiny bit of backstory on these two so you can share my giddiness about working with them over the next year. Jaclyn was a student at Milan High School, where I had my very first teaching job after student teaching there for a year. This town is just a few miles south of where my parents live and where I went to high school. I taught art there for two years (three if you add in my student teaching time) and was the only art teacher for the school, so I saw A LOT of students, but I never had Jaclyn in my classes. It is a small town, though, the kind of place where everybody knows each other, and after I moved west, I stayed in contact with a student and then went on to photographer her family, multiple times, and her wedding, as well.
Through Taylor, I connected with Jordan, who was also a student, but wasn’t in any of my classes. Her and Daniel got married on Jordan’s family’s farm on my anniversary a few years back. Meanwhile, Jaclyn has been watching my work from afar, knowing that someday she would book her own session (or wedding!) with me.
Flash forward to March of this year when she reached out via email. She was in Florida on vacation, and had only gotten engaged just a few days earlier… at DISNEY! Look closely at her earrings she’s wearing for their engagement session. The story is always in the details! <3
When we met at their engagement session, Jaclyn shared that I was one decision she didn’t have to think about when it came to starting planning (hence her emailing me just a few days after Jesse’s proposal!). She’d been a fan for a while, and she was so excited to snag a date with me. But I have to tell you, I am most certainly the lucky one in this scenario.
Not only do I get to work with a client who is one of my biggest fans, but these two are just a dream to work with. I said this over on Facebook, but these two just click. They’re a dream team together (seriously, they work together, too!) and are just a perfect match. So perfect, in fact, that years before they ever even met (they didn’t go to the same schools!), they talked to each other on the phone in the sixth grade. You remember the days… a group of boys would call a group of girls… lots of giggling would ensue… end of conversation? Well, Jesse was on one end, and Jaclyn was on the other and they didn’t know it for years and years to come. Sometimes you just have to wonder if everything is just meant to be and waiting for the perfect moment. Well, this is one of those moments and I cannot wait to see where this next year takes us!
Congratulations, you two, and I’ll see you in 2018!
