I have a confession to make. I’ve been a slightly lazy Indianapolis family photographer this month. I’ve spent most of the July reading books, laying out in the sun, swimming, and eating massive amounts of fruit salad. My husband and I took our first-ever tropical vacation (and only second-ever vacation in our 9 years together) to Grand Cayman and had an absolutely dreamy time. I’ve even snuck away to Michigan a couple of times. I kept my schedule light for July this year so that I could have a moment to slow down and breath before life picks back up again and things are back in full swing again. And I could not be more glad I did.
Side note: to all my families who have been procrastinating on getting their fall family sessions scheduled, get on it! I’ve got one opening left during that ‘peak season’ week in October and a selection of dates surrounding that time before the leaves are gone and things get chilly.
What I did leave myself in July is a handful of family sessions at my very favorite location in all the world. Since we all know that July is terribly hot and humid in Indiana, what’s better than a family session at the creek!? Ask the kids… they’ll tell you there’s nothing better… and that they never want to take photos anywhere else again. EVER. Especially once I lift the ‘avoid water marks on clothing’ warning and they head towards the banks to dip their toes, or in most cases, their bodies.
The McNeil family recently welcomed a new addition to their family crew and I was so excited to meet him. Their family session from a couple of years ago is and always will be one of my favorites. Bre has great styling abilities for their family photos and both her and Adam are both very easy-going and big supporters of letting the kids run and be kids, so pairing their energetic and adventurous kiddos with the creek was a perfect match and made for some really dreamy photos. When I shoot these sessions, the first few minutes of our time together are for the more ‘posed’ shots where everything looks peaceful and put-together, but in truth, I shoot these sessions for the wild and crazy that happens at the end when clothing is soaked, shirts are lost, and arms, limbs, and water is flying in every which direction. That is what these sessions are all about and the photos that really let a family be in their element and this session is a perfect example of just that. <3
Right after these shots, the kids got the all clear from both me and their parents. The rest of this session is really why I take clients to this location. <3 Granted, they get lots of tips from me in advance about how to prepare for the session… including some things to bring along to make the wet ride back home a bit more comfortable. 😉
This. Everything about this. This goes in her graduation slideshow FOR SURE.
And this in his. <3
