Last night marked my last session before the holidays and I was so excited about it when I got home that I’m already done editing. It’s the most wonderful timeeeee, of the year… when you’re all caught up on editing and can jump right into the photos you just shot! Now if only I could keep this kind of schedule all year round, right? Full disclaimer, though, this winter engagement session was only a quick 15 minute shoot so we could get a few shots for them to choose from for their save the dates. Just like I did with these two a couple of winters ago! Of course, 15 minutes with me always runs a bit long because I always get swept up in the moment, but I don’t think these two minded. And now they have much more than ‘just a few’ to choose from!
Sabrina and Steve are one of my 2020 couples and I beyond excited about shooting their wedding. They don’t know this year, but after we met for their consultation, I told my husband how I was really hoping they would choose me to be their wedding photographer. They were so sweet together when we met for their consultation, and their session last night proved it to be true, I knew they would be fun to photograph. Couples that openly love and laugh together are my favorite to shoot. You can guide and direct some of that in a shoot, but a lot of it has to be there already for it to be natural. And Sabrina and Steve nailed it.
They came prepared with a speaker for music (which I fully intend to use for the remainder of their session when the seasons change), but didn’t need it. I threw them right into the deep end of my session flow because our goal was to get some of the more ‘real’ and candid shots. Normally couples have a chance to slowly warm up to my style of shooting, but with such a short session, and knowing Sabrina and Steve were game for anything, we just went for it. And it turned out I basically didn’t have to direct them – it’s like they already knew what to do. Turns out my gut instincts about them from their consultation were spot-on and I was right to be so excited about working with them. I love a good snowy engagement session, but I also love shooting when things are green and alive and now we get a round 2 of their engagement session next year! I said it before and I’ll say it again… maybe this needs to be a thing? Two-part engagement sessions in different seasons of the year? Just think about it…
Happy holidays, everyone!
