I think I’ve been dreaming about this session long before I ever knew it was even a possibility. I’ve spent so much time at this location – hiking the trails, letting the pups run in and out of the creek, photographing families and couples, and just sitting on the bank listening to the sounds of the water trickling by. It’s one of those places that just makes me breath deeply and let go of anything and everything. So when Avril and Ben mentioned wanting to add a session onto their elopement package so they could capture some shots of them in their red canoe, I was over the moon. Who says you have to take your wedding photos in Indianapolis… or even on the same day!? These two opted for some romantic creek wedding portraits, instead, and I’m head-over-heels in love with them. 😍

With any wedding or elopement package, I offer couples the chance to add on portrait sessions. Some folks use them for engagement sessions or bridal portraits, and others schedule them for anniversary sessions the following year. In this case, we scheduled their add-on session for the day after their elopement. We treated it like any bride and groom portraits, but enjoyed the luxury of the longer time frame, the romantic, scenic location, and the inclusion of their favorite things – their canoe and their pup! They arrived in hiking attire and carried their canoe down the narrow path to the hidden creek. Once there, they slipped back into their elopement attire, but with one small adjustment. Chacos.

Despite the creek being shallow (and not regularly traveled by boat!) the location worked perfectly for our vision. The redbud trees were just blooming and the surrounding foliage hadn’t grown in much yet, due to our delayed seasons this year. It felt completely dreamy and magical as their wedding attire trailed in the creek around them and they laughed and paddled while their German shorthaired pointer, Ozzie, romped around them.

We wrapped up their session with plain-clothes couple portraits, but I’m saving that for another post because this collection deserves it’s own dreamy, feature. Scroll slowly, friends, you’re not going to miss one frame from this feature.
