Spring weddings are always a wildcard when it comes to weather – will it be sunny and 95 degrees? Maybe 42 and snowing? Something in between? Who knows! So when every single one of my May weddings turned out to be rainy, I wasn’t all that surprised. But, you know what they say about rain on your wedding day and each and every one of those rainy wedding days had a break in the storm and let us get outside for photos (and even ceremonies!). Mallory and Kenny were my second couple of May who fell in love with the gardens for their Willows Event Center wedding. So when the rain let up for their ceremony and couple portraits, it’s as if it was meant to be all along. Especially because the weather during the start of the day (we’re talking sideways rain and freezing winds) made for the cutest umbrella-covered first look.
Mallory and Kenny have one of my favorite love stories from the last year. Kenny is a long-time friend of Mallory’s sister and they’d known each other for years. They didn’t start dating until many years later, but when they told me the story of how they met and got together at their engagement session last fall, it stuck with me. To hear it all come full circle on their wedding day, listening to her sister and her dad both talk about how their relationship came to be, was the icing on the cake.
Every wedding comes with its favorites and I’ve been sharing some of my favorite moments from each wedding over on Instagram. In case you missed it, though, Mallory made her own bouquet (yep. … made it), her grandfather gave the sweetest speech during her ceremony, Kenny’s best guys came together for the most perfect double windsor knot you ever did see, and their cake topper was the perfect portrait of the two of them. And that’s just the start of it all. Keep scrolling for even more of my favorite moments from their day!
Mallory and Kenny, congratulations to you both. May your honeymoon be MUCH warmer than your wedding day!
