Brooke and Cam’s Ritz Charles Garden Pavilion wedding was my last wedding of the year and the perfect way to end my 2020 wedding season. It was also meant to be my second wedding at this venue for the year, but COVID pushed the first out to next year, and this one snuck in right before Indiana changed their event restrictions again. This whole year has been a wild ride for both couples and those in the wedding industry, and my heart goes out to all of those who have been impacted.
You might remember Brooke and Cam from their summer engagement session at Newfields. Brooke’s sister got married at Connor Prairie last fall, giving me a chance to meet these two before they were even engaged. Being able to work with families year after year to document their milestones and memories is one thing, but being able to photograph the weddings of each of these sisters, seeing the same family members and even a lot of the same guests two years running has been the icing on the (wedding) cake for me. Brooke and Cam are the sweetest couple and deserved to have the celebration of their dreams after a difficult year, and everything came together in just that… rain and all.
If you ask me, the rain is what made the day. Sure, every bride dreams of beautiful weather and a bit of sunshine for those outdoor portrait blocks, but Brooke and Cam couldn’t have chosen a better venue for a rainy day (which it turned out to be) and having the rain force us inside allowed us to capture every bit of the magic that was the pavilion space. There’s just something about shooting portraits in the reception space that gets me every single time – it’s big and open and perfectly decorated and captures all the little bits and details that couples have put into their days. I don’t always get a chance to shoot in these spaces, so when the weather makes it happen, I do a tiny little jump for joy. Of course, the rain (or the wind or the cold) didn’t stop us from shooting outside, too, so we got the best of everything. And the grand finale to it all!? Was it rain? Snow? Falling stars? Well, you’ll have to scroll to the end to see that for yourself.
Congratulations, Brooke and Cam, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for inviting me along on this adventure with you. I’m so happy for you both and am thrilled that you are spending the last bit of all that is 2020 starting a new adventure together and forever.
