I’ve shared lots of personal details over the last few days (on Facebook) about how much these two and their soon-to-be new arrival mean to me, how we came to meet, and just how much they’ve impacted my life. Through all of these years, I’ve been so privileged to get a front row seat to so many important moments in their lives. I was there when they reconnected after losing for many years, when they tied the knot, when they announced the gender, and now… just a few short weeks away from Baby B making his way into the world. There is no greater honor than being trusted with these fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime moments and I wouldn’t miss any of them… with or without my camera.
So when we started to coordinate this maternity session, we realized we were going to be in the heart of December before our schedules would coordinate with the holidays, and likely going to be in the midst of constant gloom as the midwest is known for this time of year. Nonetheless, that shouldn’t stop us, so Leah and Scott planned their last hurrah of a road trip (a quick visit to Indianapolis) to sneak in some friend time and some photos. Of course, our dogs loved it (well, at least Lola did) because Copper came along for the ride. The dogs all met earlier this year and while Fern is a bit skittish and unsure of Copper, Lola is in love and things Copper is just the greatest. Fern mostly sat up on the couch and played ‘mom’ when they got too rough by barking ferociously and making everyone jump. And then she would promptly run away scared of her own bark.
We planned for Saturday evening (or this time of year, it’s really afternoon) and kept our fingers crossed for warmer weather. I think we made it into the high 20’s and headed to the park despite the temps… when were we going to get this moment again!? Leah and Scott were such good sports as they followed my rapid fire guidance as we whipped our way through the session and then immediately headed out to fill our bellies with warm pizza. YUM. Sounds like the perfect afternoon to me. Plus I got to check out a new location in the park I’ve been wanting to use. Turns out, I LOVE IT!
I’ll be heading home for the holidays at the end of next week and will get to see these faces again. Again, so spoiled to be able to see them so much this year now that we’re all living closer! Stay warm, everyone… or at least be like these two and pretend you’re warm. 😉 Enjoy!
When you just want to take a nice family photo with dog. Hah!
