I know I keep mentioning how ‘off’ the weather has been this fall season for us here in Indy, and if you’ve been keeping up with the blog, then you’ll know that nearly all of my outdoor family sessions this fall have been cold… bitter cold, yet these guys make it look like a breeze. Want to know my trick? Hand warmers. Yep, it’s that simple.
So after my session with the Soja family from the night before, I went into this session armed with hand warmers. Okay, okay… it wasn’t my idea. I got back from my session the night before and my husband went out and stocked the car with hand warmers for all future sessions. The cold was getting out of hand. Luckily for the Owens family, their session had beautiful weather and some sun to help warms us up. It wasn’t nearly as cold as it had been (though still chilly) and the hand warmers ended up being more bribery and distraction than used for warmth, but hey… I’ll take it.
If you’ve been a client of mine before, you know that I’ll pull out all kinds of things to get the kiddos on board – wireless remotes, tissues, a horsehair keychain, portable stereos, whatever is in my bag at the time. My best story was when I pulled out my handheld rubber air pump (used for cleaning my gear – like portable canned air) and my mini-client wasn’t far enough past her booger-sucker days (you know the ones, they’re blue) to not be traumatized. The whole thing momentarily backfired on me, but I managed to save the moment once I demonstrated the fun little tool. This time, though, I had something even better. To them it was a tiny, hot bean bag.
This was my first time meeting this family and Michal had warned me in her initial inquiry that her boys have lots of energy. I later learned that not only do they have energy, they also love being outside and exploring. This, of course, made us a perfect fit and we had a great time trekking all around my favorite area, finding all kinds of good spots to shoot. The boys were up for anything and loved jumping and swinging and flipping and spinning with mom and dad. Michal did an awesome job of coordinating their outfits for this session, too. I’m loving her top and her sweater – which she tried to avoid wearing because she thought it was too frumpy, but hellllooooooo….. check out those couple shots at the end with it. PERFECT!!!
To the Owens family, thank you for inviting me to document this milestone with your boys – it was so wonderful to meet you all!
