I first met Stacey a couple of years ago when Max was only 18 months old. It’s still one of my favorite sessions – from Stacey’s gorgeous hair, to the adorable Max running around, to the fall colors and lighting. So when Stacey reached out to me about shooting a session for just her and Max this year, I was excited to see them again. I love seeing how much kids grow between sessions and toddlers grow like crazy.
Max is 3.5 now and Stacey wanted to capture some of the sweet moments they have together throughout the day before he outgrows this phase of childhood. With a toddler of my own, I found myself overshooting for every possible movement and expression between them – and secretly dreaming of a session like this with my own son. Stacey and Max have a really sweet, close relationship together – one that is filled with laughter and play and plenty of snuggles. Stacey shared that with COVID this year, they’ve been spending a lot of time together during the day and have developed some routines and habits that she wanted to document before this world changes again and they don’t have the chance.
Stacey and Max’s mommy and me session at Newfields was literally a walk in the park. Stacey envisioned a spot with spanning grassy areas where they could sit barefoot (or run through the grass, instead!) and just be together outdoors. Newfields delivered. We had a gorgeous late-summer evening and used every last bit of available light. I always shoot individual shots of each child and parent at a family session, but having time to just focus on one parent-child relationship throughout the session was really beautiful. They were fully focused on one another and I was able to watch their evening adventure unfold right before my eyes and I think it’s something that every parent would love to have with their child.
