I’ve lost track now of how many times I’ve photographed this family, but each time I never cease to be amazed at how much the kids have grown since I last saw them. We’ve had a few sessions at other locations since we last shot a Newfields family session, but just look at the difference from then till now! Of course, last time we shot at sunrise, and this time at sunset, so we were able to use some different spots, too… all while quietly observing the weddings in the distance.
I love hearing about their changing interests each time I see them, too, and this time I got to hear all about their summer adventures (including some broken bones!). This year has been such a challenge for everyone, but one thing I heard this year from another client was how glad they were that the kids all had each other throughout the stay at home order and quarantine. I’ve had the chance to shoot in this family’s home a couple of times and know that despite their age differences, they each have some shared common interests (like their love of reading!) and it makes me happy knowing that while they may not have loved spending every minute together, they still did have ‘together’ with the company of one another. And as they gear up for their back-to-school times, they’ll still have had a wonderful summer, pandemic and all.
More than anything, though, I hope this bunch knows that no matter how old they get, I’m always to ask the siblings to squeeze one another. One of these days, the squeeze will be just right and no one will end up in a headlock, but since most of these shots end up in giggles, I’ll take it. Someday they’ll find themselves in their 30’s and recreating the same photo just for fun and it will have all been worth it, headlocks and all. Of course, sneaking in some couple portraits of Kasey and Brian never gets old, either, so when the kids need a break (from photos and one another), it’s easy to swap them out for a bit. So lucky to have met this crew and looking forward to more sessions in years to come!
