I’ve been waiting to meet this little one for quite some time now, and he made his way into the world just in time for my August trip to Michigan. Masked up and keeping my distance, of course, I got a chance to meet him at just 11 days old. As I sat down to write this post, I scrolled back through his big brother’s newborn session from a few years ago. Life with one baby is so much different than life with a toddler and a baby, and I’ve been loving all of my family-of-four lifestyle sessions this year. There’s such a different energy, but more than anything it’s so awe-inspiring to see the big kids taking in their sweet baby siblings.
In this case, I happen to know this crew pretty well, so it takes approximately 30 seconds for Quinlin to remember who I am and warm up to me… if that. With our warm up period being so minimal, we were able to jump right into all the good stuff, complete with a toddler jumping around, too. Paxton started out our time together alert and with the most direct and intentional eye contact I’ve seen in a newborn. Newborn sessions with wake babies are my favorite, something I’m sure I fall into the minority on as newborn sessions traditionally feature sleeping babies. I love a full length lifestyle newborn sessions because they give us time to capture both – wide-eyed newborn and sweet, sleepy babe. Unfazed by the noise and motion, Paxton just took it all in, and then drifted off into a peaceful sleep while everything moved on around him. It never fails to impress me – baby’s ability to sleep through anything… especially since my own slept through, well, nothing. Hah!
It’s immensely heart warming to see this family as a unit of four, with Quinlin all moved into his big-boy bedroom, leaving the nursery for Paxton to grow into over the next couple of years. I’m not a grinch by any means, but my heart certainly grew a few sizes as I captured them in this new phase of life. Thanks for having me, McBubs, for this and always. Congratulations to you all!
