I’ve known this sweet boy was going to be making his entrance into the world this year before it was ever even this year. And we all know this year has been a wild one. Angelica and Aaron had reached out to me during the holidays last year to try and coordinate a surprise photo session for her family where they would announce their news to them, but we couldn’t make it happen between coordinating holiday travel schedules and I was so bummed. Luckily, Angelica is a photographer herself, and managed to stage things to get the photos, anyway. So when she reached out again this year to schedule a maternity and newborn session, I was thrilled that I hadn’t missed my chance at helping to celebrate these two (three!) in the next step of their journey together.
And then, Sebastian made his arrival earlier than expected. In fact, I think today is when we actually had his newborn session scheduled for, but he arrived a bit earlier than planned and just in time for me to sneak in an extra trip up to Michigan to capture them as a new family at home. Lifestyle newborn photography has always been my favorite form of newborn photography because it captures so much more than baby in those first moments of life. It’s true that mothers (and fathers) aren’t born until their little one arrives, and there’s more truth to this than just what meets the eye. Becoming a parent is an emotional, mental, and physical journey, and these people deserve to be celebrated just as much as the baby who made them as such. Shooting in home newborn sessions gives me that chance – a chance to capture it all and tell the story of how (and where) a family began.
I spent the morning with them in the most beautifully coordinated rooms, admiring Aaron’s work on the nursery, and Angelica’s decorating skills for their bedroom (and styling Sebastian’s outfits for our sessions!). Everything just popped and the session flowed together so smoothly and I cannot wait for them to see it all come together!
