Yep, you read that right. Earlier this month I had the most awesome opportunity to shoot an Airbnb wedding when my California couple decided to set their wedding date as the third anniversary of their first date ((swoon!)). They made the trip from Cali to Michigan to make things easier on the youngest wedding guest… the bride’s 1.5 week old nephew! As Deanna and Paul began the search for the perfect wedding venue – something small and intimate, with eye-catching architecture, a vintage-y vibe, and plenty of space for the guests to spend time reconnecting, catching up, and celebrating. As it turns out, not a lot of folks are jumping to get married in Michigan in February… not outside, anyway, and a lot of the smaller, unique venue-settings close down for the season. So when Deanna and Paul stumbled upon this gorgeous home on Airbnb on the north side of Ann Arbor, it seemed like the perfect match for their vision. After connecting with the home owner, who turned out to be thrilled at the idea of someone getting married at her house, they rented it out for the day and it became the most perfect backdrop for their unique celebrations complete with a photobooth and all.
I love all types of weddings, but these small, private, at-home and destination weddings really have a hold on me. They’re near-and-dear to my own heart and have a strong connection to my own story. Every bride and groom pour pieces of their story into their wedding day and this day was no exception. She wore her mother’s wedding dress, they cut a cake made by her uncle, her engagement ring is a family heirloom from the groom’s side, among many other sentimental details tucked into the nooks and crannies of the day. It was a sunny afternoon and hearts were filled to the brim, bellies were stuffed full of goodies, and it was a perfect winter wedding at Barton Pond.
A shout out to all the amazing vendors who contributed… none of this is possible without you!
