Two years ago last month I was just beginning to promote my business here in Indy after having made the move from Colorado over the summer. At that time, if you would have asked me to forward think to 2016 and asked me if I could see myself as an Indianapolis wedding photographer, my answer would have been a defiant ‘no’. I had shot a small share of weddings up until that point, and while I loved them, I was transitioning out of education (or so I thought) and was focusing all of my energy into building a family-client base so that I could continue to work with my first love… kids.
As I transitioned back into education last year (let’s be honest – who would have ever believed I’d be able to stay out of education… I just love to teach and I get a kick out of kids!) I found myself starting to crave my couples and weddings again. As my grandmother used to say, ‘Everything in moderation…. including moderation.’ This is all about finding a balance and I am learning so much about who I am as an artist and a businesswoman, and things are always changing for me… and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This year was my first full year balancing my family clients with my couples and weddings and I have to tell you it.was.PERFECT. I can honestly say I have found my match, my niche, and it’s not as specific as I thought – it’s a little bit of all of the things I love! I used this year to open up to the Indy market for weddings, engagements, and couples, and I could not be more thrilled. I took on a very limited number of weddings, and as you saw in a recent post, I wrapped up my season in October and was so, so sad for it to come to an end. However, I’ve aded in a few openings for weddings in 2017 and am nearly booked up already. I CANNOT WAIT for the season to start – I ADORE spending my weekends celebrating love and connection. Nothing makes me happier than this job of mine.
With that being said, I’ve got a couple of 2017 couples left to share with you as I round out my fall family and engagement sessions, and a couple of anniversary sessions, as well, and these two are next in line for some teasers. We all know I’m obsessed with pups and am thrilled when my clients bring them along! There’s just nothing that elicits pure joy like dog kisses and crazy puppies.
So to another one of my 2017 bride & groom couples, I am delighted to have met you both and look forward in excitement at capturing your dreamy wedding at Mustard Seed Gardens in May! Congratulations on your engagement!
I always have an assortment of favorites from my sessions, and this is my first from this bunch. I just love everything about the softness and security of this shot. <3
And this! To all my fellow-fall-lovers out there… this image is EVERYTHING.
I usually use a couple of different spots within my location for sessions, but we lost the sun so quickly during their session that I was afraid we wouldn’t make it in time to the last spot I wanted to use by the water. We improvised and used a new spot that I’ve never shot at before, but have launched a kayak from. Holy smokes – it could not have been a better outcome if unicorns had popped out of the woods. This spot is GOOOLLLLDDDDDD.
Love, love, LOVE. There’s just something about eye-lens connection that slays me.
