I’ve always loved driving downtown in the evenings and checking out all of the Indianapolis Photographers out shooting at their favorite spots. I smile to myself as I see them posing couples on Mass Ave, Monument Circle, and along the canal and think about what an awesome canvas we have to work with here in Indy. So when Laura and Eric requested a couple of their favorite Indy hotspots for their e-shoot, I was pumped. And then they told me they’d be bringing donuts to include in their session and I was over the moon.
After a month of getting rained out and rescheduling, we finally hit the jackpot with the weather and headed downtown. Stopping at the Vonnegut mural, first, then heading down to the infamous Mass Ave sign, over to the War Memorial, Monument Circle, and the State House, where they’ll be married next May. We had perfect weather and delicious donuts and I loved getting to know a little bit more about these two!
In Indianapolis, especially downtown Indy, there’s always something going on. I knew in advance the shot that Laura wanted most was at Monument Circle with the Statehouse in the background. It’s a popular shot to take at sunset here – and it’s a great request. So we timed our evening just perfectly to get down there at the right time (after having to reschedule a previous session because American Ninja Warrior was filming there!) and as pulled up we realized the circle was being used for pre-race (Indy 500!) activities. There was a 5k, a band, police cars and delivery trucks filling the space. So what did we do!? We found an even better spot to get out Statehouse shot. Check it out below!
Oh! And did I mention there’s a FABULOUS proposal in this collection! Get ready for this one. See for yourself!
Yay! We got the shot! Well…. one of them… before we were ushered out of here by a long line of traffic and flashing police lights. But I think this one takes the cake. Laura, we’ll get your shot next May, but this one takes the cake for this year! <3
Eric had been waiting for this all night (and even for the month or so leading up to our session) and with the light fading quickly, we snapped this with the last remaining donut while pedestrians cheered and applauded in the background. They couldn’t see it was a mock-proposal with a donut and thought they were witnessing the real deal! Priceless!
Thanks for a great evening, you two, and I’ll see you in 2017!

I obviously don’t know this couple – but I feel like your pictures totally captured them in a way that I know their personality and who the are as a couple! Love it so much!
