It’s back-t0-back blogs about sisters this week. Remember that 1.5 week old wedding guest I mentioned in Monday’s wedding post? Well, this is his big debut. He made it just in time to see his Aunt get married. World, meet Quinlin.
I shoot more lifestyle sessions in winter than during the warmer seasons of the year, and at-home lifestyle sessions are the only kind of newborn photos I offer, but man-oh-man do I have a hankering for my clients to book more sessions like these. I’m picturing windows open and curtains billowing in the summertime breeze. I see legs and feet intertwined in mid-afternoon snuggle sessions amongst the cushiest and comfiest of comforters and quilts. I see couples and families. babies and kids, cats and dogs.
Everyone has a different outlook on booking their photo sessions for the year – I have clients who like to celebrate every milestone with sessions. I have clients who book once a year, twice a year, and every other year. Every family and couple is different, but if I could offer out one piece of advice to anyone… at any stage in their life… it would be to book a lifestyle session to document the regular everyday moments. Your home doesn’t have to be fancy, or neat, or even have great lighting for a session like this. What it does have to have is people who love it and who are writing their story one day at a time within it.
I have such strong memories of my own childhood and the images painted in my head of the room I grew up in, the kitchen where we had dinner together and Sunday morning ‘family meetings’, or the living room where we pretended to ‘sun bathe’ when the sun came in just right are permanently etched into my mind. And while lifestyle photography wasn’t really a thing back then (nor was this candid, documentary style of photography that I so love) I would trade one of my memories to have images like these… the pictures to my own storybook.
With this family, I don’t have enough words to do justice to their beautiful story of how they came to be a perfect family of 3 (plus Copper!). What I do have, however, are the illustrations. <3
Congratulations a thousand times over to the some of the best people I know. Thank you for inviting me into your home to celebrate you.
Look closely… can you see it?
