I met Mia earlier this year after fully booking up for weddings for 2016. As continue to transition into being part of this amazing collection of Indianapolis Photographers, I’m carefully managing the number of clients I take on in order to always, always provide the best service I possibly can. I set a limit on available wedding slots for 2016, with a higher projected availability for 2017 and things have filled up quickly. While there’s still a few openings for 2017, 2016 filled up before these two really began their planning.
But I’m a big believer in connections and relationships… and you know how I feel about written communication and exclamation marks. So when Mia reached out and I knew we were a good fit within the first email, I knew I had to make an exception and open up a spot for her September wedding.
Mia and I have a lot in common within our backgrounds, and Brady and Mia are even more adventurous and outdoorsy than Brad and I. Shooting their engagement session at Eagle Creek was the obvious choice for it’s diversity in landscapes, but a sudden (and laughable) turn of events found us leaving the park earlier than expected and looking for a spot to wrap up our evening. Never fear! I always have a couple of tricks up my sleeve. 😉
Last year, I did an enormous amount of location scouting to find the perfect, secluded spots for my sessions. I found two that I just fell in love with and used them throughout the season. But then I felt I outgrew them – literally. The space was tight, the tree coverage was a little thicker than I would have liked, and the bugs were killer. Even with my never-ending supply of bug spray I bring along to sessions. But as we found ourselves leaving the park, I felt a calling and headed in that direction.
Turns out, the landscapes have changed over the last 9 months and it.was.a.DREAM. I can’t believe I haven’t been back here in this long. What was I EVER thinking?! Sure, the space is a bit tight… especially for family photos, but it’s MAGICAL UNICORNS for couples or even small, intimate family sessions. The tree coverage was PERFECT for the hot summer sun, and we didn’t even notice the bugs since we were already all sprayed up.
I believe everything happens for a reason, and this was no exception. I cannot wait to shoot this wedding in a few months (they’ll be the second-ever wedding at a new venue here in Indy!) and look forward to just as much excitement and laughter as we had here.
