It’s taken me a while to get back to blogging after sharing the first four sessions from this awesome traveling campaign this summer. I finally have a free moment (in between a morning of work and an afternoon consultation!) to sit down and type this one out. This family was the last stop along my Indianapolis-family-photographer-travels through Chicago meeting and photographing lifestyle sessions for a Chicago company.

We started out in their BEAUTIFUL home (man did I get lucky with these families and their gorgeous homes) as they wrapped up dinner and had some with the furry members of the family. We then headed outside for some evening playtime (hellloooooo gorgeous pre-rain lighting!) and a bit of fun in the rain, and then back indoors for a typical evening in their household – watching a show, baking and enjoying a dessert, and a little family bonding time.

This whole experience, from start to finish, was absolutely amazing. The goal of these sessions was to document (and celebrate!) what ‘normal’ looks like to each of these five families. Of course, to each family, it looks completely different. They’ve each had such different life paths and experiences, and some of these kiddos featured have already had to overcome hardships that many adults will never have to even think about. Yet, you would never know that from these photos. And to me, that speaks volumes to these parents and the people who have lent a hand along the way. My experience was filled with smiles and laughter, running and playing, loving and living. After all, that’s what life is really about, right?

So to each of these families that invited me into their homes to document their normal. Thank you. Thank you for sharing this time with me, thank you for showing me your lives, and above all else, thank you for letting me spend a few hours with your brilliant children. I cannot wait to see and hear about all the amazing things life has in store for them next.

This. This….. just everything about this.

Also, this. To be this little again. We still have our wagon after all these years.
