Remember when I said I’ve changed jobs a lot in my life? If you didn’t catch that, it’s over here. Well, when I graduated from college, I started another job – one that would change my social life FOREVER. I began teaching art at a nearby high school where I met Josh, and a few others, who have become a staple friend circle in Michigan. I’ve been gone from MI for more than three years, now, and every Christmas, and any other time we can coordinate a visit or I can convince people to come to where I live, I get together with this circle of 5 teachers and their spouses. The very BEST part about these people, is that every single couple is made up of two people who are absolutely best friends through-and-through. Josh and Anna are no exception to this, but maybe even the example to us all.
Josh and Anna met through mutual friends a while ago, and I have loved every minute of watching their relationship grow. If you’ve been with me for a while, you may remember their engagement shoot from back in 2010! I was asked to photograph their 2011 wedding, but moved twice, and started (yep, you guessed it) a new job…. three actually, by the time I settled down in CO. A dear friend and photographer stepped in for their big day and I missed that milestone and chance to meet their extended families.
This year, while home for the holidays, Anna and her mother scheduled a family shoot and I was a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y THRILLED. See, I think Anna and Josh are fantastically AMAZING people who are endlessly happy and healthy and I wanted to meet more of these people who helped them grow to be this way. Anna’s family consists of her siblings, their spouses, and her parents. I don’t often have the opportunity to shoot large family groups outside of weddings and events and this group made it incredibly easy. Even their outfits are on-point!
Josh and Anna have recently moved into a beautiful house with a living room set-up that couldn’t have been more perfect for our indoor portraits. From there I had some outdoor freedom, which is always interesting when I’ve been gone for a long time, but luckily my own Mom is the all-knowing of local parks, and beyond that, understands what I’m looking for in a location. Go mom! We maximized our time and the individual couples that comprise this group really got into it, coming up with their own poses and ideas as we got into the outdoor portraits.
To all of you who are a part of this genuine family, thank you for braving the bitter Michigan cold…. even without your coats on!
Enjoy!
Blanket too small? Who cares! It’s SERIOUSLY cold and the sun hardly ever shines in Michigan winters!
These two are newly engaged and have that contagious-new-excitement about them! I’m saving a couple of special photos of them for a separate posting…. keep an eye out!
What good sports these spouses are!
Oh yeah, and guess who’s expecting?! 😉 Stay tuned for more on this one!
Hands down, my favorite father-son photo EVER. EVER!!
