I want to take a moment this morning to step back to yesterday and wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day. If you’re new to following me and checking out this blog, you may not know, yet, that each year on mother’s day we attempt to put together our own mini-shoot in the yard at my parents’ house.
You see, I’ve been gone for a long time. I moved away shortly after college and spent several years adventuring around the west and west coast for work. It was difficult (and expensive) to make it back very often, so I usually saw the family once-a-year around Christmas time. Before I left in 2010, and when I had just gotten my first SLR, we attempted our first ((unofficial)) shoot against the many brightly-colored walls of the house.
Fast forward to the next time I was home for mother’s day…. in 2014. We took a bit more time in choosing outfits last year and really hammed it up for the camera… wireless remote and all. Of course, the only time we ever have available to do these shoots is in the middle of the day, so please excuse the lighting. 😉
Now that I’m back in the midwest and can make it up to visit in just a few hours, this year’s Mother’s Day Shoot was just expected by all. We took much more time planning and coordinating outfits than in the past (although they were still thrown together the morning of… maybe we’ll do more advanced planning for next year) and tried to even push our shoot until late-afternoon to maximize lighting.
And then mother nature decided she was still mad at me. I have no idea what I’ve done to upset her, but she has been bound and determined to rain out EVERYTHING I’m trying to shoot. We were hoping to shoot outside against some flowering trees because everything is in bloom in Michigan right now, but the rain kept us confined to the front porch mostly.
Right as we were getting ready to call it and pack it in, the rain stopped, we sloshed into the swampy yard, and snagged a few in the yard and I do have to say, this is my favorite one yet from the years of attempting this. We’re getting better as photographers and as models. 😉
So Happy Mother’s Day to my mom and all the other mom’s out there. I really enjoyed going to the nursery (even though I was miserable while there… I like what we GOT, just not the process of getting it by pushing through hundreds of sweat), taking walks, gardening (except for the irises part), and squashing ants. Love you lots and I’m so happy to see more and more of you in me each day.
See you in a month for our ROAD TRIP!!!
XOXO
