Indianapolis Couple Photographer | casey and her camera
Yay! It’s here… Katie & Brandon’s engagement session is up on the blog!
Almost a month ago I met these two on at the University of Michigan… at their Law Quad to be exact… on a FREEZING cold Michigan evening. It was right before Christmas, the weather was sort of gloomy and the wind was whipping, but they showed up and they totally rocked it. Take this first photo, for example, this is usually during the ‘awkward’ I-just-stepped-in-front-of-a-camera-30-seconds-ago-and-this-is-totally-uncomfortable period. Uhhhmmm…. definitely can’t tell.
Katie and Brandon don’t even live in Michigan… did I mention that? They were in town for a few days visiting family for the holidays and we coordinated to meet up for their engagement photos because they met at U of M during their undergrad years. Brandon was a senior and Katie was a freshman and the story of their first conversation is incredibly cute.
But then Brandon graduated and moved south for grad school. Katie finished up her undergrad and all the while they kept things going long-distance. After graduation, Katie moved south for her own grad school program, but get this… they still live 3 hours apart! That’s true love, people.
Katie contacted me during the summer of 2014 looking for a wedding photographer for their 2015 wedding. Her and Brandon know these two (and I couldn’t imagine a better group of 4 people to hang out with – I bet there are HOURS of laughter) and had been recommended to me by Angelica.
I learned their story and quickly agreed to be their photographer. Shooting a limited number of weddings this year, I am really looking forward to each and every wedding I choose to take on.
Katie and Brandon had gotten engaged on an even-more-brisk December day one year prior to their engagement shoot, so the timing was perfect. There are many sentimental spots on the U of M campus for them – the library, the law quad, the diag… the list goes on.
So as I’m writing this post, I’m looking back on their story that Katie had sent me… and I’m just smiling away to myself. Like Brandon’s proposal day, the weather for our shoot one year after the engagement was almost the same, and we spent time shooting at the exact location he popped the question.
Simply, perfect.
We ended the shoot at one of my favorite places in Ann Arbor – Nichols Arboretum. Tucked away behind the hospital, there are endless backdrops to shoot here and I have a few favorites I took Katie and Brandon to. We wrapped up here, working beyond sunset and pushing our light for everything it was worth… and it all paid off.
