I’ve shot at the Indianapolis Museum of Art a couple of times now, but shooting in the gardens is always a favorite of mine. I’m sure it stems from my love of gardening and flowers and all things color, but it’s just such a gorgeous backdrop and always worth the fee to access the grounds. This, however, was my first time shooting at sunrise for an IMA gardens family session and I have to say… I think I prefer it. The way the light filters through the trees on the grounds in front of the Lilly House is just breathtaking. Plus, with the limited hours of the grounds in the evening, but their early-open hours for grounds use, not only did we have perfect lighting, but we had the entire place to ourselves. It was dreamy.
I always adore working with this crew. It gives me a chance to really see the kids grow and to get to know them. Plus, I’m pretty sure they’re starting to associate seeing me for photos with donuts (because they go for donuts afterwards) so there’s that, too. Who wouldn’t want to be associated with donuts?! Now if only to get them to just bring donuts to their next session. 😉
This session was a bit different than their previous sessions. You can tell everyone is growing up, not just in size, but in personality, too. They’re back to school, and in some cases off to school for the first time ever, and are really turning into ‘big kids’. I feel so proud of the people they’re becoming because I’ve been given this awesome opportunity to see them transition, but I also miss those crazy, stubborn, sillies that they were just the last time I saw them. As least there’s still one stubborn little in the bunch. 😉 It took her a bit to warm up during this session (I hear we threw off her morning routine a bit), but when she did she stole the show until she was in fits of giggles asking to be held like a baby. Just see for yourself – check out the last shot in this post!
