It seems like just yesterday I was in Detroit shooting my first Ford Piquette Avenue Plant Wedding. It’s hard to believe it was already more than a year ago. It was that wedding that caught Nikki and Chris’ eyes as they were putting together their vendors for their Detroit wedding from all the way in Chicago. I’ve had the best time adventuring around the midwest with them over the last year and am a bit sad to be posting this because it means it’s all coming to an end for me. But first, let’s take a moment or two to soak in all the goodness of their day.
For starters, we had Hart Plaza to ourselves, which if you’re familiar with the riverfront landmark, you know that it’s almost never vacant – not even in the coldest months. What we didn’t know in advance, seeing as we’re all (sort of) out-of-towners, is that the Albanian American Festival was happening later that afternoon. From their hotel rooms, we scoped out the area and saw that there was one spot not fenced off, decided to go for it, and hoped for the best. Turns out, security was absolutely amazing and let us in for their first look on the promise that we’d then quickly head out for the rest of our portraits elsewhere. Chris and Samantha made it in, no problem, and Nikki and I followed not too long afterwards, leaving the security guards passionately debating our entrance in our wake. It all worked out for the best and we even enjoyed some sweet serenading to Albanian music to set the mood.
From there, our adventures continued as our second stop along the way was Comerica Park… on game day. Oops. We snuck in some quick shots with the iconic Tiger before heading off to The Belt for our grand finale. It did not disappoint.
Nikki and Chris were married by two of their best friends at the Piquette Avenue Plant in a short, but sweet, ceremony with all of the right personal touches, including Nikki shouting ‘LINE!’. They then kicked off their reception with a bridesmaid toast that will forever go down in my books as one of the top toasts (if not THE top toast) of all time, complete with DJ coordinated jams, customized lyrics, and, I kid you not, THREE costume changes. Epic would be an understatement… she straight killed it.
Nikki and Chris, it was clear from the start that you two are adored by many and to see all of these people surrounding you and cheering you on gave me the warm fuzzies. Many congratulations and here’s to you!
