This might be my first posted family session at Newfields since the name change happened last year. I’ve spent a lot of time at the gardens recently, both for sessions and just to spend time taking in their spring blooms and it’s absolutely stunning. It’s my favorite time of year to stroll the paths around the Lilly House and while this session just missed the end of the tulip season (blame it on a pirate), we had gorgeous weather and beautiful greenery as we took in the grounds.
When families book with me, I always ask them to share a bit about themselves – about the kids and their likes and interests, what’s important about them in this phase of life, if there’s anything they’re celebrating or documenting, and so on. It gives me a chance to get to know them a bit before we meet and gives me a good vision for that they want out of their session. They’re able to share with me what’s most important for them when it comes to the photos and shots. I shoot all of my sessions very candidly and with a lot of movement and interaction, but I also take the time to slow down and take those more traditional shots, too. Knowing what each family wants helps me to use our time best and fill each gallery with images that tell the story of their family in this moment in time. And sometimes, this makes for some really big galleries… like this one.
With three kids each with their own personalities and energy, this might be one of my largest family galleries to date. I love to shoot individuals of each kiddo with Mom and Dad, and these three made it so easy to shoot, and then so hard to narrow anything down once I started editing and I’m not sorry about it. You can see little bits and pieces of Brooke and Ben in each of the kids and I loved giving each one a chance to be snuggled and loved on by their parents. Brooke is a natural supermom as she coordinated all of the kids and tried to help arrange the kids when all they wanted to do was be rolled up like a burrito (totally my fault for introducing that to them).
Thanks for having me, Adams family, and thanks for exploring the gardens with me on the hottest day of spring, yet!
