When Stacey booked this session to capture Max’s 18 month milestone, she told me she knew family photos with toddlers could be unpredictable and was fully prepared for him to want to explore and completely ignore them. While it is true that kids at this age want to test their surroundings, feel independent, and be their own person, allowing these things to happen during the course of our time together has always results in beautiful moments of connection between families.
I love working with littles because they’re active and like me, don’t sit still well. Seeing the joy and excitement in their eyes as they find leaves as big as their own head or learn to throw rocks into the water is inspiring. As an adult, I recognize that sometimes I move through this life too fast. I focus on my to-do list more than I take in my surroundings and appreciate being in this moment in life. Looking at life through a toddler’s perspective helps me see what I’m missing and I find myself slowing down to savor things a bit more after spending time at sessions like this one.
