I have a confession to make… I completely cheated in photographing this family’s holiday session this year. You see, I’m completely spoiled in that I get to see these guys twice a year, but that also means the kiddos feel comfortable telling me ‘no’ when they don’t want to do something. Haha! At the end of our spring session, the kids showed interest in my camera and I let them take some quick portraits of one another. … it was a hit! So in planning for our annual holiday family session, I planned ahead and arrived with quite the trick up my sleeve. 😉
Insert Target plug here (because who doesn’t love Target!?): the girls outfits are from the new Cat & Jack line at Target!
We shot on a chilly November morning that also happened to be daylight savings, so the kids had been up for much longer than the adults. We started out our session as we always do and I saved it for a time when I could tell the kids were nearing the end of their enthusiasm for taking photos. This usually happens around the time when we ask them to stand next to or near one another for family shots – choose your child placement carefully!
Unless you have a trick up your sleeve like I do. Want to know what it was?! Keep scrolling!
Side note: check out my shout out to this dad over on the Facebook page. He’s always saving the day during our sessions!
This is it. This is nearing the end. And I think this might be my all-time fav family shot of these guys to date. <3
And this was the moment I revealed my big secret…. a wireless camera remote. They LOVED taking photos of each other from BEHIND my camera, so what better way to entice them than letting them take their own photos while still BEING in the photo?! You would not believe how many family shots we ended up with from this session. It’s a Christmas miracle… and I’m keeping them mostly secret so that this momma can enjoy and savor them one-by-one when she gets her gallery shortly. 😉
Little miss took a while to warm up to the idea of using the remote at first – but this is her in ((almost)) full control. 😉 The nice thing about the remote is that I can control everything about the photo and then just get them all excited about pushing the button exactly when we’re ready. It worked like a charm!! Not to mention, I could remove the trigger from my camera in a split-second to regain control of the shutter!
If this doesn’t steal your heart, I don’t know what will. <3
Wireless remote for the win!
Ready to have your heart stolen one more time!? Check out big sister’s flexibility…
And someone else who wants to be just like her. <3
No remote needed for these two. Happy holidays to this family. See you in the spring!
