It’s here. And the truth is, it’s almost over (almost). I’m talking about busy season for photographer – the time of year when everyone wants fall family photos (myself included). In years past, my schedule has been full of 20+ day stretches with no breaks in shooting and no time to enjoy fall with my own family. This year, my schedule looks a bit different… and will look even more different next year. This fall season has been really comfortable and enjoyable so far. I have sessions a few nights a week and chances to spend family time enjoying the leaves and [insert fall activities here] with my own family. Some changes within our own family forced me to put a cap on my fall schedule and while I was anxious about it at first, it’s turned out to be the biggest blessing in disguise for me. You see, I’ve always been bad (really, REALLY bad) at balancing work and home life. When I started shooting full time, I thought I would have a better grasp on the separation of work and home, but what they say about entrepreneurs working 80 hours a week to avoid working 40 hours a week couldn’t be more true for me. 😂
The families and couples I’ve shot this fall have each left such an impact on me. I’ve enjoyed every evening spent out at a park with them, playing and exploring and adventuring with them all. It’s been a while since I’ve seen this family – the last time was when they were still just a family of three and Bianca was only 10 months! It’s always such a treat to see kids grow over time and I was blown away with how big Bianca has gotten! Our session was very active as Bianca likes to be on the move and loves to be out exploring nature, and Carmen is just happy to be about anywhere her family is. Taylor and Andy are sweet as ever, together, and their parent shots from the end of this session are some of my favorites of them. Of course, they brought along Carmen’s rocking chair so each of the girls could have their own portraits in their chairs. Click back on that link above to see these shots from Bianca’s session!
To this family and all of the families that ask me back year after year – thank you. The time spent with you grows more special with each year as the kids age and your families change. Happy fall, all!
