When I first met Kate and Cody for their consultation it downpoured. It was fine when we all arrived and then while we were talking it’s as if a hurricane arrived out of nowhere. Cody commented that every time they tried to do something wedding related, the weather seemed to turn. The tables turned for their fall engagement session, though, and we had gorgeous (if a bit chilly) weather all evening.

My sessions are always filled with movement and motion and laughter. Kate had shared with me during our consult that she loves candid, natural, laughing photos and really wanted to capture that during our session. So naturally I pulled out all my crazy requests for them and am absolutely swooning over the results. So often I hear from my couples that they’re not comfortable in front of a camera (who is!?) and they’re not sure how to pose. My response? No problem! To me, it’s less about posing and more about showing up ready to play together and Kate and Cody nailed it. They were up for anything and laughed their way through it all, even if they thought I was a bit nuts with my various directions.

The other thing these two love are the detail shots. Ugh, could we be a better fit? If you’re new to my blog then I’ll just spill the beans, now. I’m a details girl. I lovelovelove shooting the details, I think there’s so much of a couple’s story in the details, and Kate’s excitement about these kinds of images gave me a chance to start with their engagement photos and look for these tiny moments. I’ve always been drawn to hands, especially, and looking through their gallery there are shots where you can feel their relationship through the tight holds of their hands.

The real icing on the cake, though, was finding out about our shared love of all things Costco. I think it was in that moment that I realized how great of a match we are for their 2019 wedding. I mean, I liked them from the get-go, but Costco!? I mean, come on! It’s meant to be! Can’t wait for next fall!
