I have such a soft spot in my heart for elopements. It’s mostly personal, but I love them as a creative, too. So if elopements were a cake, what would be the icing on top? An elopement engagement session, obviously. All of my elopement packages offer an engagement session as an add-on. I really should change it to read ‘portrait session’ on my pricing guide, as sometimes elopements are scheduled and planned with very little notice and these sessions actually happen afterwards as little celebration sessions or even as anniversary sessions. Regardless, I love the plain-clothes aspect of these sessions and being able to see these sweet couples for a little bit more time – to capture them together in another part of their life.
I connected with Annie and Karl back in September when they were on the hunt for inspiration for their December elopement. They stumbled across a blog of one of my winter elopements at the Indiana State House and knew it was what they were looking for. We met for a consultation shortly afterwards and everything fell into place. Annie and Karl are getting married in a small, family-only ceremony for many of the same reasons my husband and I eloped. They’ll be celebrating with their family at the State House, one of my favorite Indy backdrops for elopements (especially winter elopements!), and I’m so excited to capture it all for them.
Annie and Karl make this session look like a mild fall day, but don’t be fooled. We got about 10 feet down the trail and I started to wonder how long we’d actually be able to last outside. Lucky for us, the wind died down and they were able to snuggle up together for some extra warmth. They had told me in advance this session would be good practice because they’re awkward in front of the camera, but they were very obviously wrong. They were complete naturals and were a breeze to photograph. Looking forward to spending more time with them in just a few weeks!
