COVID has changed a lot about this business and how I operate. One major thing that’s changed for the wedding photography side of my business is that I no longer meet with couples in person for consultations, they’re all held over the phone or through a video call. I have to admit I love the freedom of this, but it does mean that I don’t meet my couples until their engagement session, or in some cases even their wedding. In the past, I was able to get a feel for how a couple is during our consultation – even if briefly. Haley and Katie and I all had to call in from separate locations for our video consultation. When we all showed up for their Carmel engagement session it was the first time I could really get a feel for who they are as a couple and it was immediately obvious it would be an easy shoot.

They’re one of those couples that just fit together. Haley is all laughter and joy and Katie is calm and silly and they just bounce back and forth off of one another so easily. They shared that this was their first time having photos done without their dogs and wanted to just focus on the two of them, so we did just that. We used every inch of Central Park in Carmel for their engagement session. We even hid in the weeds much to the surprise of unsuspecting passerby’s out for an evening stroll. I can’t tell you how many people thought my camera bag was abandoned on the path until they jumped out of their skin when they realized we were only a few feet away.

We chatted about dogs and made up songs and wedding planning and family dinners and food, because who wasn’t hungry by the end of our adventure together? We talked about work and school and their upcoming vacation that was literally starting the next day. It was the best kind of first-time-meeting and has me all kinds of excited for their wedding next year. I hope your trip was wonderful and your ribs were delicious, Haley and Katie.
