Late last month I got a chance to take a day trip up to north for a Bucktown Chicago engagement session. I always enjoy the drive back and forth between Indy and Chicago and getting into Chicago in the early afternoon on a weekday was far less hectic than any weekend trip I’ve ever had. This was my second Chicago engagement session this year and I have to say, they’re becoming a favorite of mine. I love Indy, don’t get me wrong, but there’s something refreshing and challenging about shooting unfamiliar or new backdrops that pushes my creativity and I’m digging it.
Nikki and Chris are local Chicagoans, but Nikki and her family are from Detroit, where these two will be tying the knot next year. They’re getting married at the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, which I had the pleasure of shooting for the first time earlier this year. They wanted to bring a good balance of their lives to their engagement session, which meant really diving into their favorite places around the city and near to their home. This session was more of a lifestyle engagement session than my usual outdoor sessions and I would loooovvveeeee to shoot more of these. Who wants to have their engagement photos in-home and then around their favorite parts of town!? CALL ME! Or text me, email me, … you know. 💁🏼♀️
We started out our session at Kibbitznest for some Irish coffees and a bit of board game fun, visited the Greetings from Chicago mural on our way to their favorite spot, Emporuim (which opened their doors early just to let us shoot!), spent sunset at Lincoln Park, and then wrapped up with a quick stop along the platform while the L whizzed by in the dark. Chris’s parents were gracious enough to tote us around all afternoon, taking care of sweet Copper in between shots and it made everything so easy. Nikki and Chris had planned and organized every detail in advance and the whole thing went so smoothly and was so relaxed for being in a busy city! I have soooo many favorites from this session, especially those shots that are a bit different than my norm, and cannot wait for Nikki and Chris to see them all!
