Never could I have ever imagined that years after moving away from Michigan I would be shooting Michigan weddings almost every summer. It’s one of those little details that overwhelms me with gratitude for this career I’ve built out of a childhood hobby and a favorite college course. This year brings me three (can you believe it!?) Michigan weddings, the first of which is this gorgeous

Ellen and Chad met through some friends of theirs whose wedding I also happened to photograph years ago. They were part of Angelica and Aaron’s wedding party, so to see it all come full circle and stand there alongside Ellen and Chad as they tied the knot just felt like the perfect storybook ending… to a book series that’s just getting started.

Ellen and Chad had told me about how stunning their venue would be, and I’d looked at plenty of photos online prior to arriving, but nothing could have prepared me for the jaw dropping scenery that unfolded before me, rolling across soft hills and around a pond, up to the vineyard with the most majestic oak tree sprawling out over the ceremony sight. I mean, this tree might be straight out of a movie – it’s that impressive. And I haven’t even mentioned the willow tree yet. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, I tend to shoot a lot of city weddings, and being surrounded by open space and endless greenery was a literal breath of fresh air.

Their day was relaxed, simple and romantic, and it all pulled together so beautifully thanks to their vendor team, and especially because of Shorline Event Design. I know Ellen and Chad have been patiently waiting to see more from their June celebrations, so I give you…. the blog!
