I had a couple of back-to-back sessions recently that were impacted by the rain. We’re not talking rescheduled because of the rain, either, but rather a last minute surprise in weather patterns and radar predictions that stirred up some trouble. In most cases, it was a matter of rescheduling last minute as I was walking out the door to leave (after the sun was out and the radar was completely clear only 15 minutes prior!), but in Allison and Logan’s case, it meant listening to the wind pick up suddenly and watching the clouds rapidly change direction, knowing the storm that wasn’t expected for another 2+ hours, was going to be on top of us momentarily. And thus began the adventure of their rainy fall engagement session.
We ended up splitting their session over two days – both of which ended up being heavily overcast, but I don’t mind a little cloud coverage now and again… especially in the fall! It gave us a chance to use a few different locations and take full advantage of the last remaining bits of color as leaf season came to an end. For the first half of their session, we sped through a variety of poses and set ups, and looking back I’m actually impressed with how much we got in during the short span before it started to rain. I think we ended up with more images from day 1 of their session, even though the second day allotted us more time!
Regardless, meeting my 2021 couples this fall has been something extra special because this has been my first time meeting them. Allison and Logan met with me virtually for their consultation, so meeting them for their engagement photos was our first time truly meeting. They got engaged right at the start of COVID quarantines and hadn’t had a chance to celebrate yet, so being able to shoot two mini engagement sessions for them only felt fitting. They will celebrate their wedding next fall (with maybe a bit more sun) at the Ambassador House and I’m looking forward to celebrating them even more then!
