Two days prior to our creekside engagement session, it poured. Not for very long, but it really poured. We were scheduled to shoot that evening and while things cleared up a bit, I zipped over to the creek in a hurry to check the conditions (sometimes the bank floods out and you can’t get down to the water!) and found myself staring at a murky, brown, mud-filled creek. It doesn’t happen every time it rains, but when it’s a hard rain, all of the silt is stirred up and it can take days to settle. Emily and Greg happily agreed to push back our session in hopes of the water clearing and the sun coming out… while still catching those redbud blooms!

We were rewarded with this.

Emily and Greg are planning their September wedding at Speak Easy in downtown Indy. I’m so excited to celebrate them and to get a peek into the downtown space as an Indianapolis wedding photographer! You may remember last year’s Speak Easy wedding from their Broad Ripple location. I dig the contrast in elements and design at these unique spaces and am pumped to shoot another event with them!

You all know how much I love this location, but what I love even more is a couple who comes to their session ready to play together. As I wrapped up edits on this session last night, I was just smiling to myself as I scrolled back through for one final check. The frames from their session are filled with playful smiles, while-hearted laughter, tugs and tackles… and one near-wipeout into the creek that Greg totally saved the day on. It’s sessions like these that feed my creative soul. These are the shots that showcase who you are as a couple. It paints a picture of what your relationship consists of. It’s images like these that I want to fill albums and homes with. I have go-to ‘poses’ to get couples into action every session, but it’s ultimately up to them to decide where to take it from there.

To Emily and Greg, thank you for your flexibility and playfulness. Thank you for being up for anything (including wading in the creek!) and being all-in for your session. I cannot wait to see you all again later this year!
