Just this year, I started offering Indianapolis elopement photography packages, and man-oh-man am I glad I did. It’s brought me such an array of experiences, including this Harry Potter inspired 5-year vow renewal. These shorter service options are perfect for vow renewals, super intimate family-only ceremonies, and, of course, elopements! So when Mike reached out to me a couple of months ago to toss around an idea for covering a super-secret vow renewal he was planning for his wife of 5 years, I was thrilled to be able to offer him exactly what he was looking for. It’s events like these that resonate with me most, having gotten married in a courthouse elopement nearly 4 years ago, myself. 😉
So what all went into this day? Well, Mike was planning it for quite a while when Alex found out they were going to be relocating for her work. Mike had told her that the secret renewal was a gala event, so with plans to move, Alex decided they would just have to skip it since they would be gone… and then Mike had to let the cat out of the bag… but not the whole cat, just a couple of paws.
Five years ago when they were dreaming up their wedding, they longingly looked at the Indianapolis Central Library as their venue, before deciding that while the timing was right, the numbers weren’t, and had a small, simple wedding at the courthouse to tie the knot. Fast forward to just last month when Mike put together Alex’s dream ceremony. With enough books as a backdrop to keep any bookworm happy for a lifetime, a custom-made Harry Potter-inspired invitation made by Mike, himself, personalized graphic design details, book centerpieces, romantic candles, and gorgeous bouquets adorned with book-page roses, it was enough to bring tears to nearly everyone’s eyes.
But the icing on the cake and the parts that Alex didn’t know about? The sentimental table Mike had arranged for her to see upon walking in, complete with something old, something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue and having their vows renewed by Alex’s college advisor and longtime friend. The sound of her excitement echoing throughout the Simon Reading Room after realizing who was standing on the stairs in front of them will forever be my favorite moment of this sweet afternoon.
To Mike and Alex, thank you for inviting me to be a part of this charming and delightful afternoon. It was all of the best parts of being a wedding photographer rolled into one, and I cannot wait for you to see the full collection.
