A couple of weeks ago I got a chance to shoot a wedding I had been looking forward to for over a year now. Do you remember their downtown Indy engagement session?! I knew they were getting married at the State House when they booked their package with me, but at the time of their booking, I hadn’t yet shot an Indiana State House Wedding. A few months after their engagement session I second shot a wedding there with a fellow Indy photographer and immediately fell in love with the location. Talk about a glamorous wedding venue… it’s absolutely majestic. Since then, I’d been counting the days until May 13th – the day these two would #sayidoyen. 😉
Beyond their ceremony venue being completely drool worth, Laura and Eric kept their celebrations small and simple, and from a photographer’s perspective, that means personal – deeply, intimately personal. I’m a big fan of detail shots on a wedding day because every decision the bride and groom make leading up to their wedding day tells part of their story. These details showcase your favorite colors, favorite foods, a new pair of shoes, the dress, a grandfather’s pocket watch, personalized cards and notes, sentimental jewelry, hand written vows, and so much more. It’s the in-between the lines that paints the bigger picture of your journey as a couple up until this point, and the new path you step foot onto the moment you say ‘I do’.
Laura and Eric’s wedding was the perfect example of just this and you can check out a huge list of contributing vendors at the bottom of this post.
But let’s take a minute to truly appreciate Laura and Eric as individuals and as a couple. When I first met them both in their consultation, I initially thought they were both introverts or maybe a bit shy. We met after a morning workout and I immediately felt connected to them because of their commitment to the gym… and to eating donuts. Flash forward to their engagement session, where I really got a chance to see them interact as a couple and learned that Eric is actually super animated and always getting Laura laughing. Flash forward again to their wedding and spending the day documenting them as they became husband and wife. It was here that I realized that they have what every couple strives for and most envy. They are, without a doubt, the best of friends and that is the foundation of their relationship. Suddenly it made sense that their wedding was smaller and more personal – they haver everything they need within each other… and their handwritten vows said exactly that. It wasn’t necessarily that they were introverted or shy, but that they have such a deeply intimate friendship and what I was actually seeing was the way they are so in-tune with one another.
Their wedding day was so sweet to be a part of and I most certainly teared up behind my camera on more than one occasion. This was a tough post to narrow down favorites for (see Eric’s expressions during their first look and again during their cake cutting!) and I cannot wait to deliver the full gallery to these guys soon!
THIS! Just, this. Everything about this… want to know the story? Eric is set up for the first look, Laura comes walking over and ‘boops’ him on the shoulder with her bouquet. Eric turns… but he wasn’t supposed to! Not until Laura told him she was ready! So Eric gets the tiniest of peeks at Laura while she ninjas behind him and he gives me this look. And it couldn’t have been a more perfect first look if I’d tried.
Hellloooooooo majestic lighting and architecture. <3 <3 <3
Annnnddddd, my favorite.Just ask Eric if the cake was good.
Inspired by Doughnuts and Deadlifts, they put their own personal touch on their cake topper. Insert all the heart eyes, here!
