This past summer I went on a traveling photographer road trip and on my trip I pulled out my trusty 35mm camera that has been with me now for ages. I popped in some film and reignited my passion for photography all while traveling New England with my mom. A full post on that to come some time this winter when things slow down. 😉

Fast forward to October when I was up in Michigan for a couple of fall sessions and found myself a couple of models to show up at sunrise on a FREEZING morning… all so I could shoot some film… glorious film.

I give you…. the Kunz family… party of 3 (plus 2 missing fur-babies). I’ve known this girl (and her hubs!) since high school, but you can read more about that in their session from last year. Lucky for me, Lacey has incredible style, Andrew adores his wife, and the both of them are just adorable… and in anticipation of their little one’s upcoming arrival!

If anyone tells you shooting film is like riding a bike… they’re wrong. It is not something that sticks with you. Well, the technical aspects, sure, but man are we spoiled with digital photography and technological advances. I cannot tell you how many times I looked at the ‘back’ of the camera in hopes of seeing my image or reading my histogram…. or even checking my focus! I’ve been spoiled with being able to shoot a moment… and then recreate and reshoot it if I want to. This time I just had to trust my knowledge of my camera and really focus on my settings and what I know about exposure.

Film is a dying form of art… but it’s also making a comeback. It’s vintage and that automatically makes it generationally popular. I’ve been itching to get back into film – both for myself and for my clients – and it’s been on my goal list two-years-running, now. I am so pleased with the outcome of my first test-ride back on the bike, and while I was a little wobbly, this Indianapolis Film Photographer feels good about what’s next to come for her. 😉
