I met this family earlier this year at the park for an outdoor family session. They had just moved from Michigan and we struck up conversation about how small-world it seemed that we shared the same name… and the same state-of-origin. So when Kasey contacted me again this fall about getting a second shoot in this year, I jumped at the chance… and this time closer to their home turf here in Indiana. We met at the Carmel Center for the Performing Arts and kicked off the start of my holiday family sessions and celebrated the littlest’s jump into her second year of adventuring here on this planet.
Kasey and Brian are the absolute perfect parents to these three – each of them have totally different personalities and are completely independent little people and Mom and Dad have ideal go-with-the-flow personalities. I just love getting to see the character in each of these kiddos – Ava, the eldest is a true sweetheart through-and-through. She’s patient and kind, gentle and loving, a fantastic listener and generally excited to be experiencing life and learning along the way. Jack, the middle child, keeps everyone laughing. His stoic face carries so much seriousness, until moments like the one above happen… and they happen often. He is a natural leader, a silent observer, and protective and loving over each of his sisters.
And then there’s the birthday girl. She practices the same stoic faces Jack tries to maintain, but her eyes are full of mischievous sparkle and it’s clear that life is a game… and she’s winning. She’s daring and passionate, dedicated and independent. She kept me laughing throughout our session as she doesn’t talk much, but understands every word you’re saying. She’s a little ham. 🙂
It’s moments like these that define why I became an Indianapolis photographer. I love seeing families again and again – I love watching these kiddos grow and documenting these fleeting moments for them.
Oh my… my favorite, for sure. <3 <3 <3 I don’t typically shoot in more ‘urban’ or city settings, but I think I need to.
See?? He can’t keep it together. It was his turn for the photo with Mom and Dad and he stood stone-faced for a second and then out of nowhere, threw his arms around them both and pulled them in. No one could keep it together… not even Jack. 🙂
And this is what it looks like to try and get a photo with your completely independent 2-year-old.
Our shooting time was limited by cold mornings and an early snack time, but we snuck this in as we were loading up the cars and it will forever be one of my favorites. Kasey, you are gorgeous and your children are stunning. Happiest of holidays to you all and I look forward to seeing you next year!
