This year was one of my busiest wedding seasons in all of my years in business. It also marks the end of my pandemic weddings (yes, some of my couples just got their weddings back this year after two years of craziness) and the first year back to my version of ‘full time’ for weddings since having kids. It was busy and it was beautiful.
Alexa and Calem’s Mavris wedding in October was one of the few Mavris weddings I’ve shot in the fall in my time here in Indianapolis. While it’s no secret I shoot at Mavris a lot, most of the weddings I’ve shot there have been spring and summer, or even late fall weddings, when the color is gone. These two lucked out with their wedding falling as the colors in the courtyard out front of Mavris were just peaking and I was drooling over the color on their wedding day and again while editing their images. Fall is just never long enough for me.
The best part about this whole day, though, has nothing to do with the coordinated details, the gorgeous colors, or the 1,542 helicopters that took off and landed that day (something I will always be a fan of – that and the trains). Instead, it has everything to do with the stolen glances and giggles and inside jokes that Alexa and Calem exchanged throughout the day. Their story is one for the books, but seeing them together in the moment on their wedding day, says it all. It’s there in their portraits, in the tear under Calem’s eye as Alexa walked out into the garden, and in the clapping at the end of the welcome speech. It’s not all here for you to see, but it’s there for them. Just as it should be and just as it is when you marry the love of your life and your best friend.
Alexa and Calem, congratulations to you both. I wish you the warmest of celebrations as you head into your first holiday season as newlyweds.
