Alex and Jiaxi’s Newfields engagement session was a bit different than what I normally shoot because we shot during the afternoon. Usually all sessions are scheduled around sunset, or with Newfields, at least as close to sunset as you can get since they close the grounds at 8pm at the latest. But for Alex and Jiaxi, we had to do things a bit differently because Alex is in dental school and, knowing from my sister’s experience with dental school, their schedules are absolutely crazy. Alex had a break near the end of June and the only day that matched up with my schedule was a weekday when the grounds close at 5pm, so we crossed our fingers and made the most of it. And guess what? Newfields photographs so well any time of day. Remember this elopement from the other day? That was at 9am! Give me all the gorgeous filtered light through the trees and we can make it work.
This was my first time meeting these two as they’d only recently gotten engaged and aren’t yet planning their wedding, so it was fun to get to know them and hear their story as we strolled the ground. I always love hearing how couples get engaged and it was fun to hear how Jiaxi woke Alex in the middle of a sleepless night to propose to him. Alex wasn’t convinced she’d even remember the moment the next morning (maybe she was sleep talking!?), but Jiaxi was wide awake and meant every bit of it. We had fun shooting a fake proposal on the grounds during our session to add to their story, but you won’t see that here – you’ll have to get those shots from them!
Alex and Jiaxi, thank you for inviting me along for your Newfields engagement and congratulations again to you both!
