On Saturday I spent the day second shooting with Calynn Berry Photography at the most amazing venue I’ve ever been to. Seriously – if you are getting married in Indy anytime in the next few years, check out Canal 337. It’s to-die-for gorgeous. Down to the last detail of the getting ready rooms for the girls AND the guys.
Side note: this image isn’t from that wedding. 🙂 This is from a wedding I second shot with Joshua McDonald Photography back in Colorado. I can’t show you the Indy images yet! Stay tuned for those later this year.
Calynn and I were talking during dinner about what it feels like as a wedding photographer… the day after. I thought maybe I was along in feeling like my body is just completely wrecked (coincidentally, Miley Cyrus’s wrecking ball is currently playing on my computer… and no, I’m not ashamed) after a day of shooting as either a primary or a secondary.
It should make sense – you’re on your feet for 12+ hours, constantly moving, you inevitably end up dehydrated, you don’t eat, the list goes on. Regardless, I’m always amazed when I wake up the next day how terrible my body feels. I make it all sound so glamorous, right? I’ve tried flushing myself out with water, taking ibuprofen through the day and at night, but inevitably, there’s always an aftermath.
So I spent my Sunday taking a ‘me’ day. We went to the dog park, dropped off package to a 2015 senior, watched a movie, and just generally rested. I had zero energy and even resorted to taking a semi-comatose nap… very unlike me.
But when I woke up on Monday, I wasn’t any better. Turns out, I’ve got a cold. Not anything really terrible, just your typical the-weather-is-changing-and-so-is-the-temperature-so-now-you-have-this-weird-sore-throat-thing. And that’s when it finally made sense. Since I can’t seem to justify that my body might be pooped after working 12+ hours under extreme conditions, I choose to instead justify my Sunday-day-after conditions by knowing now that my body was coming down with something.
Mystery solved for this time. I shoot another wedding (with Annie Fedrigo!!) this coming Saturday. Let’s see what happens this time!
And wedding photographers, if you’re in the same boat as me (which I know you are… it’s a really giant cruise ship and we’re all on it) and have the ‘wedding-photographers-hang-over’ what are your cures?
Off to Michigan I go… see you there!

The day after a wedding I can’t do anything!!! I wish I had a cure for it!!!!
Feel your pain!!! I second shot a wedding last weekend…and felt this tickle in my throat all day…well after 8+ hard hours on my feet and then a 4.5 hour drive home…I was officially sick as well. But ultimately…it was totally worth it! Feel better soon!
I have the same problem the day after a wedding! I just try to veg out as much as I can the day after….that doesn’t always happen, but I try. 🙂 Double header wedding weekends are the worst, though!
Seriously! My poor family. I’m gone all day on Saturday and useless on Sunday!
So pretty!
Thank god i don’t shoot weddings!!!!! LOL love the top image and hope you feel better!
I applaud you guys that shoot weddings
