How does time go so quickly? It seems like just a few months ago that I was at this family’s home shooting Hugh’s six month milestone photos. I’m not sure where the year went, but he’s now a year old and walking. Where did the last 9, almost 10, months go!?
If it were up to me, every family would have a lifestyle session at home and an outdoor family session each calendar year while the kids are young and changing so quickly. Originally, we had this Coxhall Gardens Family Session scheduled closer to Hugh’s first birthday, but Alix and I put it off for a couple of months in hopes of some cooler weather. If you live here in Indiana, or really anywhere in the midwest, you know that’s a laughing matter right now, but we did have some mildly warm temperatures with a nice breeze for our evening together, so I’d call it a win!
Over the last year or more I’ve found myself really drawn to movement in my sessions. I’ve always migrated towards a style of ‘directing’ rather than posing, and while my sessions are still a mix of both, I find that the images that speak to me most are the ones with movement and emotion. With two littles as a part of this session, things just easily fell into place this way. We played ring around the rosie, chase and tag, climbed stairs (a big feat when you’re little!), rolled around in the grass, ran over the bridge, swung around and sat on shoulders. Not to mention, twirled Leighton’s adorable pants. The entire evening felt like one big adventure night out at the park… exactly as it should feel. Thanks for having me, Thompson family!
