It’s not very often that I shoot a newborn lifestyle session where we have an awake baby for the majority of the time, and I’m not sure I’ve ever shot one where baby stayed awake for the whole time. Carter just didn’t want to miss out! Since a lot of my newborn sessions are a shorter, milestone session, if baby has longer wake time stretches, this is definitely possible, but we’re usually able to wait them out and catch some sleepy shots right at the end. This time, though, Carter was awake and alert through the entire thing, and even making incredible eye contact with his smitten parents throughout most of it. It was so impressive!

You might remember their home (and their pups!) from this pregnancy announcement session earlier this year. It was such a treat to be back in their home again for some newborn photos and be able to see their new nursery in person. Kait and Derek waited to find out the gender and shared with me that near the end they were both convinced they were having a girl, but then along came Carter! Just as sweet as can be, with the most gorgeous head of hair, and adored by his whole family – Finley and Emma, included, he’s the perfect addition to this new family of five.

Congratulations to the Schutz family! I cannot wait to see you this fall for Carter’s next milestone!
