I’m so excited to finally share this family session because it took us almost a year to actually get together to shoot it! You see, Shelby and her sister Madison gifted this backyard family session to their mom as a Christmas gift last year. It had been a while since they had family photos done and with both girls in college, and one out of state, the holidays were a perfect time to schedule their session. We planned their session to be shot on their parents’ property – the same one that they grew up on and their parents built up with their own hands. Shelby’s dad shared that when they first bought the property it was an empty cow pasture with not a tree on the lot. I had a chance to appreciate the time and effort they put into their home as we walked the property and used all of the gorgeous backdrops and views.
We ended up rescheduling more times than I can remember over the last year as the weather continually worked against us until Thanksgiving of this year. As the girls came back home to celebrate the holidays with their folks, we got a new date on the calendar and crossed our fingers. Of course, as our session approached, there was nothing but clouds and rain in the forecast. We ended up lucking out with a dry afternoon and even a bit of sun! Their property is just as gorgeous as I’d imagined, and I loved learning a bit more about them as we fended off the chilly temperatures. Thanks for having me, Dolen family!
